Youth Apprentice Program

The Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP) is a leadership training program for high school and college aged youth who are interested in using performing arts as a tool to strengthen and create change in their communities. YA’s work in partnership with their peers and under the supervision of staff and board, serving as the youth leaders of the organization. YAP members develop special projects that contribute to Loco Bloco, assist Community and Carnaval Classes, produce events, organize field trips, work as peer mentors, and engage with their community through art and service. Through the YAP Loco Bloco aims to raise and support the next generation of artivists in San Francisco.

One of the tasks that our Youth Apprentices take on is the selection of a Loco Bloco youth as “Loco of the Month.” This honor goes to a program participant who embodies our organizational core values of Artivism, Health, Inclusion, Grit, Leadership, Family and Education. Anyone involved in Loco Bloco may nominate a youth for Loco of the Month. Once selected, the winner is profiled in our monthly newsletter, “The Beat.” Nominations are due by the first of each month. If you know of a Loco Bloco youth participant who deserves recognition, we invite you to nominate that person for “Loco of the Month” by filling out the online form below:
